ERO EARTH HOUR ENERGY SAVING COMPETITION
ERO invites you to participate in the Earth Hour 2026 Energy-Saving Competition, an initiative designed to promote sustainability, reduce energy consumption, and create awareness among tenants, clients, guests, staff, and the surrounding community.

Date: Saturday, 28 March 2026
Time: 20:30 – 21:30 (local time)
Participants are encouraged to align their activities with the global Earth Hour movement. For inspiration, resources, and official guidance, please visit the Earth Hour website:
Use the ideas provided to make your #MyHourForEarth impactful and meaningful.
🏆 Competition Prize
A R1 000 cash prize will be awarded to the winning property.
How the Winner Will Be Judged
The final score will be calculated out of 100%, weighted as follows:
1. Energy Reduction Performance – 75%
- Energy savings will be measured using the property’s main electricity meters.
- Electricity consumption from 20:30–21:30 on 28 March 2026 will be compared against normal usage benchmarks.
- The higher the percentage of energy saved, the higher the score.
2. Awareness & Initiative Efforts – 25%
Points will be awarded for initiatives that promote Earth Hour and sustainability awareness among:
- Tenants
- Clients
- Guests
- Staff
- The broader community
Examples include (but are not limited to):
Awareness campaigns
- Earth Hour mentions in tenant or guest welcome letters
- Banners or posters at reception
- Notices on boards or digital screens
Engagement activities
- Marshmallow braai
- Candlelight dinner
- Stargazing activities
Visible sustainability initiatives
- “Switch off the screens – talk to your family” activities
- Balloons or displays representing CO₂ savings
All social media posts must include the official hashtag:
#MyHourForEarth
Submission Requirements (25% Component)
To qualify for the Awareness & Initiative score, proof must be submitted via email.

Please include:
- Images or videos clearly showing your initiative(s)
A short paragraph explaining:
- What was done
- Who was involved
- How it promoted Earth Hour or sustainability awareness
Social Media Participation (Required)
To qualify for the competition, participants must:
- Like and follow the official ERO Facebook page
- Post about their Earth Hour participation on Facebook
- Tag ERO in the post
Your post must clearly showcase:
- Participation in Earth Hour 2026
- Participation in the ERO Earth Hour Competition
- Use of #MyHourForEarth
Winner Announcement
🏆 The winner will be selected based on the combined weighted score (energy savings and awareness initiatives).
📢 The winner will be announced on 15 April 2026.
